In the heart of the Monédières, discover Sarran.

The village is renowned for its remarkable point of view at the Puy of Sarran, for its museum dedicated to President Chirac’s gifts received from nations around the world and for its associative activity and important events.

The village has kept Gallo-roman remains and a magnificent church, one of the most homogeneous of the canton. The localities of the village are also rich in heritage treasures : large number of crosses, bread oven, fountain of Ruffiat, the Cher’s mill, …

WHAT TO SEE AND DO

  • Church Saint-Peter-es-Liens: built in 1409, it sees its Limousin portal be surmounted by a steeple-wall. The nave and the choir date from the beginning of the 15th century. As for the later chapels, they date from the late 19th century. The sculptures on the listed furniture (later 19th century) and the ‘pietà’ are particularly noteworthy. The church is listed as a Historical Monument since 1988.
  • The Cher village : it is composed of a farmhouse, a monumental barn Auvergnat style and a lodge (private property).

  • The Cher mill : owned by the Natural Spaces of Limousin, it has, within its area, a large bat colony and is classified as a Natural Area of Ecological Faunistic and Floristic Interests. Educational panels will explain the specific characteristics of this exceptional natural heritage.

  • Puy de Sarran viewpoint : Sarran is dominated by a Puy, named after the village. It culminates at 819 meters above the sea level and is the guardian of the East side of the Monédières’ chain. It is well known for its limestone. Two orientation tables make it possible to appreciate a remarkable point of view and to observe the limits of the Corrèze department, as well as the Chain of the Mountains of Auvergne. The Puy de Sarran is accessible by car but also via a hiking trail.

  • The Corrèze Valley : the trout abounds in the Corrèze. This 1st category river for fishing turns into a torrent in the middle of the rocks.

  • The castle of Bity : built around 1500, it belongs to the Chirac’s family today. Two turrets in pepper shakers are suspended on the corners of the facade, itself dominated by a central pavilion half-hug curved.

  • President Chirac’s museum : this museum is dedicated to the 5000 gifts president Chirac received between 1995 and 2007, while he was president of France. The museum presents an impressive collection of valuables objects from all around the world, depicting the cultural imprint of each country. Twice a year, the museum hosts temporary prestige exhibitions, as well as entertainment shows. The library of the Museum, rich on works about Corrèze and its inheritance is also to be seen.
