Saint-Yrieix-le-Déjalat

Discover Saint-Yrieix-le-Déjalat in Ventadour-Egletons-Monédières.

Located on the Plateau de Millevaches, Saint-Yrieix-le-Déjalat is at the confluence of the rivers Corrèze and Dadalouze.

You can visit the church of the 12th century and the cross on the town hall square, classified as a Historical Monument. Not far from the village, the Montamar site was built at the end of the 13th or the beginning of the 14th century. This stronghold had the role of monitoring the valley road between Bonnefond and Saint-Augustin.

 


WHAT TO SEE AND DO

  • Church Saint-Yrieix : built in the 12th century, it was rebuilt in its vast majority in the 19th.
  • Monumental cross : in the heart of the village, this cross granite dating from the 14th century is placed on a rectangular base, supported by a staircase with three steps. In the form of a medallion, its upper part bears, in a light relief, a Christ on the cross with the holy women at his feet. This cross is classified as a Historical Monument since 1927.

  • The archeological site of Montamar : built in the 13th and the 14th centuries, this stronghold was to monitor the valley road between Bonnefond and Saint-Augustin. It was abandoned less than a year after its construction and today, there are only ruins of it.

  • Hiking trails : Named “La Butte de Montamar” and “Le Puy Bezin” two marked trails will make you discover the puys and panoramas of the limousine mountain.

  • Centaurus’ Garden :botanical garden where aromatic and medicinal plants are developed in organic farming. The owners offer tours and workshops in the summer.
