SAINT-MERD-DE-LAPLEAU

Saint-Merd-de-Lapleau

On the edge of the Dordogne gorges, discover Saint-Merd-de-Lapleau.

In the south of the Ventadour-Egletons-Monédières’ territory, discover the heritage of Saint-Merd-de-Lapleau, built on the slope of a wooded plateau, following the hiking trails that crisscross small villages and hamlets. They will lead you to the Dordogne gorges, wild places that do not lack of charm. On the site of Chambon, at the edge of the dam of Chastang, you can also fish and enjoy peace provided by the surrounding nature.

Saint-Merd-de-Lapleau is named after its patron saint, Saint-Medard (bishop of Noyon in the Middle Ages).

  • The Roc Grandand The Chapelouneviewpoints : breathtaking and astonishing viewpoints over the Dordogne gorges.

  • The Grotto of the Maquisards : used by the French resistance as a hiding place during World War II, it was attacked by the Vichy police in June 1944, despite its difficult access. Today, it is possible to see it through a hike departing from a place called Beunac.
