In the heart of the Monédières’ Massif, Chaumeil is an integral part of the Regional Natural Park of Millevaches in Limousin. Overlooking the valley of the Douyge, the name Chaumeil echoes the old thatched roofs. The village is easily distinguished by its houses with slate facades (which cover the ancient pink granite), that are built on a traditional and typical model of the Monédières.
A few kilometers from the village, the Suc-Au-May point of view, one of the highlights of the Monédières and Corrèze in general, allows you to admire the Plateau de Millevaches with a 360° view, so you can discover varied landscapes.
Chaumeil is also the cradle of accordion. Many accordionists have emerged, such as Jean Ségurel (1908-1978), the most famous. Knight of the Legion of Honor in 1968 by General de Gaulle, he is the author of more than 600 songs. The most famous hit is “Bruyères Corréziennes”, dating from 1936. Musician but also a great passionate of sport, he created in 1952, the Bol d’Or of the Monédières, a cycling race which has been won by the greatest French cyclists.
Chaumeil is also the culmination of local products. In the village, the Monedières’ Houseis a place dedicated to our local producers and artisans. There, you can admire the work and buy a little souvenir of Corrèze to take back home
