In Ventadour-Egletons-Monédières, in Corrèze, crossing each village, each hamlet, you will never be far from a monumental cross, a small church or a chapel, dating back several centuries. Of romanesque or gothic art, these buildings are the testimony of a religious and architectural heritage, typical of Corrèze.
We can take the example of Rosiers d’Egletons, a small village, located 4 kilometers away from Egletons, unique in the world for seeing the births of two popes (out of the three that were born in Limousin). Clement VI, nicknamed “The Magnificent” who built the second palace of popes in Avignon, and Gregory XI, nephew of Clement VI, who was the last French pope, and the one who brought the papacy back to Rome and restored peace in Europe.
Today, the town is built around the Sainte-Croix church, whose stained glass windows echo this unique fact in the world.
